Your Salon Needs These 3 Things
If you know me, I am anti-consumerist in many ways. I don’t like to buy things that are not incredibly useful. I think these things are game changers if you are managing a salon.
Here are three things you may also love for your salon…
A Backpack Vacuum
We have tried it all when it comes to hair control on the floors. I am a bit of a freak about the floors being clean because I think things like hair and dust should be non-existent for the best customer experience. Obviously hair is always a challenge when you are cutting it and blowdrying it all day!
We have used standard vacuums, brooms, push brooms…and we even used a leaf blower for a while (it made the floors look great but all of the dust and hair settled on the walls and the tchotchkes around the salon).
Since we started using this backpack style vacuum, the floors are the best they have ever been. The Service Desk Team vacuums the entire salon every morning before we open with this bad boy and it makes the salon look great. We do have the salons deep cleaned every week by an amazing cleaner (thank you Anna! You are the best!) so this tool is ideal for keeping up with the hair during the week.

A Cell Phone for the Desk Phone
For the last several years we have been using cell phones for our Service Desks. For many years prior to that we had a landline phone. We had endless issues with our landline phones and the phone service providers. Using a cell phone at the service desk has been a game changer for us.
Here are the benefits of having a cell phone:
Anyone can take it home and answer calls! Ideal for inclement weather days, days when the salon is closed for maintenance etc.
It still works if there is a power outage.
You can text your clients.
If you use Apple devices, you can use the phone as a hotspot for other devices if the WiFi goes down.
When someone needs to call off work, they can group text a manager and the service desk so clients can be called and rescheduled as soon as possible.
The Service Desk can take photos easily for any reason.
Just for fun…we used to have our Service Desk keep a BeReal account since they had a little down time and a salon cell phone haha.
iPad for the Team to use (bonus: get Jotform)
Let’s be honest, our cell phones can be a scary place. Anything could show up on your phone if you are using your cell phone for a client consultation. Best practice is to have a community iPad that has WiFi and perhaps a few apps like Pinterest that can be used for the guest consultation.
It feels more professional and keeps questionable content out of the view of the guest. We have two at each location for the team to use for consultations.
BONUS: Use Jotform for your color consultations (more on this later!). This has been incredible for us. This gives us an objective opportunity to give a precise quote to the client so there is no surprise at the end of the service.’’
I know these are not small items to recommend…however, I think these are 3 of the tools that have the biggest impact!
